ЁЯМ╕ English Translation & Meaning

Light spread across the world,
When Nanak graced this earth,
The darkness of hearts was dispelled,
Truth walked gently upon the soil.

"There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim,"
All are children of the Timeless One,
The same divine spark glows within all,
A truth once hidden, now revealed to everyone.

Work with devotion, live with grace,
Earn honestly, share your place,
Chant the Name that purifies the mind,
And let the dust of ego fall behind.

He dreamt of Begampura — the land of peace,
Where none would suffer, none would weep,
His words were jewels, his wisdom deep,
God’s mercy flowed where his feet did keep.

So today, let us seek his light,
And walk the path of truth and right,
Kindle Nanak’s flame within our heart,
And let the inner darkness depart.

ЁЯТл The Deeper Meaning

This poem celebrates not only the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji but also the awakening of divine consciousness he inspired. The verses reflect his central teachings:

  • Oneness of humanity: Guru Nanak’s proclamation that “there is no Hindu, no Muslim” was not a negation of identity, but a profound call for unity beyond labels and divisions.

  • Honest living (Kirat Karni): True spirituality is not escape from the world but engagement with it — working ethically and living truthfully.

  • Sharing with others (Vand Chakna): A life of compassion and generosity lies at the core of social harmony.

  • Remembering the Divine (Naam Japna): Repetition of the divine name purifies the mind and keeps one grounded in truth.

  • Vision of Begampura: His vision of a society free from suffering, discrimination, and oppression remains an inspiration for justice and equality.

Guru Nanak’s light was — and remains — revolutionary. He spoke against hollow rituals and blind orthodoxy, instead urging introspection, service, and love.

ЁЯФе Why This Poem Was Written

This poem was written to reconnect modern readers with the timeless essence of Guru Nanak’s message — especially at a time when the world seems divided, restless, and uncertain. His teachings remind us that:

True freedom lies in compassion.
True faith lies in equality.
And true worship lies in selfless service.

By reflecting on his life, we awaken our own potential for goodness — and in doing so, we continue his mission of spreading light.

ЁЯМ║ Closing Thoughts

As lamps glow in gurdwaras and hymns of “Satnam Waheguru” fill the air, let us pause to internalize what Guru Nanak taught — that divinity is not found in temples or scriptures alone, but in the way we treat one another.

May his light guide us toward peace, humility, and truth.
Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti! ЁЯЩП
