More than three millennia ago, a voice arose in the Rigveda — calm, wise, and collective.
It said:
“Sangachhadhvam, samvadadhvam, sam vo manāṁsi jānatām”
Let us walk together, let us speak together, let our minds be one.
This verse, Rigveda 10.191.2, became one of the most celebrated expressions of human unity.
It was a seed — a prayer for shared purpose, for synchronized thought and action, for the oneness of heart.
But every seed, when nurtured, seeks to bear fruit.
And if the Vedic seers sowed the seed of Sangachhadhvam, what would its fruit look like in our age — an age of global interconnection, but also global dissonance?
That question gave birth to a new Sanskrit hymn —
a modern continuation, not as imitation but as evolution.
It’s called “Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu”, meaning “Let there be Fulfillment.”
The Birth of a Modern Hymn
While Sangachhadhvam called upon communities to unite in spirit, the world today demands something even deeper: not just togetherness in action, but awakening in awareness.
Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu arises from that need — a hymn for a civilization seeking both connection and consciousness.
It is written in the rhythm and diction of Vedic Sanskrit, yet it speaks to the modern soul.
It is not a religious text, but a spiritual continuation —
the fruit that ripens when the seed of Sangachhadhvam matures into wisdom.
Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu
(“Let there be Fulfillment through Togetherness”)
1.
Saṅgacchadhvam iti bījaṁ yadā manasi ropyate,
tadā hṛdaye puṣpati maitrī, jagati phalati śāntiḥ.
When the seed of Sangachhadhvam is sown in the mind,
friendship blossoms in the heart, and peace ripens in the world.
2.
Samānī dṛṣṭiḥ sarveṣāṁ, samaṁ karma pravartate,
ekameva hi cittaṁ no, nānā deheṣu vartate.
One vision shines in all, one action flows through all;
a single consciousness lives in many bodies.
3.
Yatra sarve bhavantyekam, tatra dharmo nihitaḥ sthiraḥ,
nānātve’pi paraspareṇa, pravartate sadā spṛhaḥ.
Where all become one in spirit, there abides the eternal Dharma;
even amidst diversity, there flows mutual reverence.
4.
Buddheḥ sāmyam anudravyaṁ, karuṇāyāḥ paraṁ phalam,
saṅghabuddhyā pravṛddheyaṁ, jagat bhavatu bodhamayam.
The equality of wisdom is inexhaustible,
the fruit of compassion is supreme;
may the world grow with the mind of the Sangha,
and become illumined by awakening.
5.
Ayaṁ phalaṁ saṅgacchadhvam, na kevalaṁ gatiḥ samā,
citte citte pravarteta, ekasminniva bodhatā.
This is the fruit of Sangachhadhvam — not mere walking together,
but the awakening of many minds as one.
6.
Śivaṁ śāntiṁ ca dharmaṁ ca, saṅgahena pravardhaye,
sarvabhūteṣu sauhārdaṁ, sarvajagati samatā bhavet.
Let auspiciousness, peace, and righteousness
grow through our togetherness.
May friendship dwell in every being,
and equality pervade all the worlds.
The Meaning Beyond the Words
In this hymn, the seed of unity (Sangachhadhvam) matures into the fruit of fulfillment (Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu).
It transforms action into realization:
-
From walking together → to awakening together
-
From shared direction → to shared consciousness
-
From social harmony → to spiritual wholeness
Where Sangachhadhvam sought synchronization, Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu celebrates symbiosis — the flowering of compassion and wisdom through unity.
The Continuum of Indian Thought
This hymn belongs to an unbroken Indian tradition of togetherness:
-
The Rigveda sowed the seed of collective order (ṛta).
-
The Upanishads nurtured the sense of inner unity (ātman = brahman).
-
The Buddha ripened it into compassionate community (Sangham Sharanam Gacchāmi).
-
And Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu gathers their fragrance — a hymn for today’s global consciousness.
It invites us not merely to agree, but to awaken — not just to coexist, but to co-realize.
Why This Hymn Matters Now
We live in an age where humanity walks together technologically, yet drifts apart emotionally.
We are connected by networks, but not by understanding.
Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu is a prayer for that missing bridge —
for unity that goes beyond alignment, reaching into empathy and shared awareness.
It reminds us that fulfillment is not achieved alone, but through the flowering of collective wisdom.
Final Reflection
When we walk together, we build society.
When we awaken together, we build civilization.
The hymn Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu is that civilization’s song —
a fruit born from the ancient seed of Sangachhadhvam,
ripened by centuries of thought,
ready to nourish a world that seeks peace within and without.
🌺 In essence:
Sangachhadhvam was the seed of unity.
Saṁsiddhir Bhavatu is its fruit — the hymn of awakened harmony.
Both whisper the same eternal message:
“Let us move together, let us awaken together, and let our fulfillment be one.”
